Masters Graduation: Lena Douglas, Rhythmic Music Conservatory, Copenhagen
Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Lena Douglas has spent the last 4 years moving - from Melbourne to Stockholm to Copenhagen, and soon to be London. The experience of living far from home and adapting to new environments has brought about much personal self-reflection: what parts of me are really me?
With melodic songs as containers, this recently composed music attempts to explore the multiplicity of ways in which one can be oneself. How can you honor where you come from and allow yourself to be influenced by where you are now?
For Lena, this means owning her Aussie-ness (accent incoming) and jazz school piano-playing past, while making space for more recent influences: autotune-y pop, sampled loops and some classic CPH midi guitar.
Feat. this delightful band:
Janus Bagh - bass
Stikki/Nick Roder - guitar, backing vocals
Gintė Preisaitė - piano, keyboard
Laura Møller Madsen - backing vocals
Malthe Kaptain - trumpet
Lena Douglas - vocals, keyboards, piano

Stockerz EP Launch, Melbourne
For this special show at Northcote Social Club, Lena is bringing together some of her favourite musicians to celebrate the launch of her EP ‘Stockerz’, a collection of melodic, experimental pop songs that house her explorations from her time living on an island in Stockholm in 2022-23.
This special show will feature Merinda Dias-Jayasinha (vocals), Nick Roder (guitar), Claire Cross (bass), Josh Barber (drum kit), Flora Carbo (saxophone) and Max Dowling (saxophone), and begin with an opening set from Imogen Cygler, who will perform her witty, beautiful songs in trio form with Flora Carbo and Rob Downie.
Solo Sets w Lena Douglas & Nick Roder
Lena Douglas (solo - voice, keys) joins Nick Roder (solo - acoustic guitar, electronics) at High Note on Sunday the 17th of November for an afternoon session.
Nick explores the confluence of analogue and digital worlds using acoustic guitar and electronics, presenting textural compositions that (hopefully) breathe.
With a strong grounding as a pianist and keys player in the Melbourne band scene, Lena’s recent work shifts focus towards the voice through sung melodies and sampling her own vocals. With equal love for acoustic textures, pop energy and nerdy chord progressions, Lena’s music is melodic, honest and open-hearted.
